SAINT HELEN CATHOLIC SCHOOL CELEBRATION ST. PATRICK DAY 2022

ASH WEDNESDAY

The Holy Day of Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday is a Christian holy day of fasting, prayer, self-denial, and repentance of past wrongdoings. The Day of Ashes marks the beginning of the penitential Lenten season. Many Christians attend special church services and read scriptures on Ash Wednesday.

This year’s Ash Wednesday is March 2, 2022. Our Catholic Church enters the season of Holy Lent started with Ash Wednesday. We begin each Lent with a stirring call a repentance and a reminder of our mortality. The blessed ashes are “imposed’ on our foreheads with the shapes of the cross today as a sign of conversion, penance, fasting and human mortality. May God bring us to a deeper relationship with Him and one another in this time of Holy Lent by praying, fasting, and almsgiving.

Second Week of Easter

The second week of Easter allows us to continue entering into and embracing the gift we have received in the death and resurrection of Jesus. The prayers and the readings keep inviting us to celebrate the gifts we have received.

In the Acts of the Apostles, we watch Peter and the others show such courage and boldness in proclaiming the good news. They are filled with the Spirit. We see that they also care that no one is in need, ensuring that even the widows are taken care of.

The Gospel story about the encounter between Jesus and Nicodemus takes us deeper into the mystery of our re-birth into Jesus. It has to do with walking in the light.
